Bienenaward
The annual European Bee Award honours innovative projects and technologies for the protection of pollinators and their habitat. The Bee Award is presented in two categories: "Land Use Practices" and "Innovative and Technical Solutions". This year's Bienenaward for innovative technical solutions went to the German company BB Umwelttechnik.bbumwelttechnik.com The Bienenaward was awarded to the double-blade mower for grassland harvesting.
The winners of the Bienenaward 2016 rely on technology from ESM
The mower makes it possible to mow grass much more gently than with other mowing methods: Insects and amphibians sitting in the grass can fly away or flee in time. The jury of the European Bee Award honoured the double-blade mower with the Bee Award out of 27 international participants. BB-Umwelttechnik specifically uses mower blades and double-knife cutter bars from ESM in the design of its innovative mowers, as products from Ennepetal cutting and mowing technology have proven to be extremely robust, durable and gentle in practice.
The European Bee Award - Background to the bee award
The European Bee Award has been presented since 2014. It was launched by the ELO (European Landowners' Organisation) and the European Agricultural Machinery Association (CEMA). The aim of the Bee Award is to promote innovative projects and techniques for the protection of pollinators and their habitat. The winners of each category receive the Bee Award in the form of prize money of €4,000. In addition, the winners will be promoted through the EMO and CEMA communication channels. The Bee Award competition is open to farmers, landowners, institutes, universities and organisations that have developed exceptional and innovative projects and technologies for the protection of bees and other pollinators and their habitats. An independent jury chaired by Professor Charles Godfray (University of Oxford) and international experts presents the Bee Award annually at the European Parliament in Brussels. The Bee Award, which was presented for the third time this year, has quickly gained international renown. In addition to the technical prize (BB Umwelttechnik), the project: "B-Lines - connecting landscape for pollinators" from the UK was honoured with the Bee Award 2016 in the category "Land use practices".
