Farmers receive 316 million euros in EU funding
Saxony-Anhalt's farmers received around 316 million euros from European Union subsidies last year. The EU direct payments were transferred to the accounts of more than 4,250 farmers in the state as planned, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on Friday. Almost a third of the funding was paid out as a so-called greening premium, for which farmers must demonstrate measures to protect the climate and the environment. According to the ministry, this involves, for example, maintaining permanent grassland or varying the crop rotation in the fields. source: www.t-online.de

Mühlviertel organic hay milk farmers double their milk deliveries
Domestic organic hay milk farmers can claim exactly that. Since 2014, they have doubled their annual supply volume from 1.5 to three million kilos of milk - and are more satisfied than ever. "Many of us made a conscious decision to switch and wanted to get away from the eternal pressure to grow," says Stefan Hofer from Auberg. Like his delivery colleagues, the "Hollerberger" enjoys being a farmer. The 30 farmers produce raw milk from the Upper Mühlviertel for the Hofer organic line "Zurück zum Ursprung" (Back to the source), which is processed into buttermilk in a wide variety of flavours by Berglandmilch. Like their colleagues, group spokespersons Stefan Hofer, Josef Wiesinger and Günther Pötscher have found their calling in organic hay milk production. They can well imagine that fresh milk from the Mühlviertel region could also be available on supermarket shelves in the future. source: www.nachrichten.at

TIROL. "A clear commitment to small-scale mountain farming is also a rejection of mass production abroad. Our Tyrolean farmers, but above all many consumers, have opted for this path and I cannot understand why this - our common - path is now to be suddenly destroyed at EU level," said Schweigl in an initial statement on the planned cuts in funding for agriculture and rural development by ten per cent, which were recently announced by EU Budget Commissioner Günther Oettinger.
