Horse cutting unit
The Bidux® double-blade system from ESM used in the horse-drawn cutterbar enables farms to combine near-natural mowing with clean and effective forage production. Mowing with the horse-drawn cutterbar has become increasingly popular on ecologically orientated farms in recent years. The Bidux® double-blade system from Ennepetaler Schneid- und Mähtechnik is designed in such a way that it is suitable for a wide range of applications and can be used as a horse-drawn cutterbar.
Special features of mowing with the horse-drawn cutting unit
As in any mowing area, specific rules apply to mowing with the horse-drawn cutting unit and must be observed. First of all, these operating instructions relate to the operation of the mowing device as such, as a horse-drawn cutting unit has a different design concept to a cutting unit for a motorised mower. However, the fact that this type of mower uses a live drive with specific behaviour must also be taken into account. The use of horses as draft animals naturally limits the working width of the cutting unit used. However, working widths of up to 2.75 metres are common practice today and do not place any particular strain on the animals. When choosing the right cutterbar width for a horse-drawn cutterbar, the mowing situation and the number of working animals to be used for traction must be taken into account. The design of a cutterbar for this area of application must also take into account the fact that horses differ from motorised drives in terms of their drive power and pulling speed. The Bidux® double-blade system from ESM used in the horse-drawn cutterbar takes these special conditions of mowing with horses into account. The first thing to mention here is the smooth pulling action of the mower, which enables a fluid cut through the crop with the help of the working horses. This ease of traction in the horse-drawn cutterbar is achieved by a slim and sophisticated design that significantly reduces the tractive force required.
Horse cutting unit and animal welfare
The tried-and-tested Bidux® double-blade system with patented ESM Carbodux mower blades enables a clean and powerful cut. The result is a smooth and vibration-free work process, which in particular prevents the mower from clogging. As animal welfare plays a special role when mowing with a horse-drawn cutterbar, factors of this kind are of great importance. A difficult-to-move mower with a tendency to clog would mean an unsatisfactory mowing result as well as overloading the horses. Neither of these is acceptable on a farm that wants to combine ecological work with animal welfare and productivity. It is therefore advisable to use the specialised ESM technology for the horse cutting unit.
