Portal mowers

Portal mowers, for example, are driven on both sides via rocker arms and crank rods. Oscillating mower technology from ESM is used in a wide range of professional gantry mowers. High-quality gantry mowers with reliable components deliver excellent cutting results, a long service life and are able to cope with different mowing situations. The performance and service life of gantry mowers depend largely on the hardness and cutting force of the blades used. It is essential to use high-quality components such as those manufactured by Ennepetal cutting and mowing units.

ESM technology for portal mowers

The patented Carbodux® knife blades are characterised by a long service life compared to knives from other manufacturers and deliver a clean cutting pattern. Portal mowers are manufactured in different designs and mowing widths. The larger the working width of the mower, the heavier it generally is. Portal mowers with aluminium frames offer a weight advantage over other materials, especially in large mowing widths. The two most important factors with regard to the area performance of gantry mowers are the bar width and engine power of the drive units. Fuel consumption, handling and the quality of the cut material also depend on these factors. Practical tests have shown that fuel consumption per hectare is lower when straddle mowers with a large cutting width and powerful engine are selected. The mowing behaviour also changes when the width of the portal mower is increased. Wide gantry mowers generally offer improved adaptation to uneven ground and a correspondingly better cutting pattern.

The right cutting width for gantry mowers

In addition to the size and nature of the mowing area, the choice of the right cutting width also depends on other factors. For example, the local conditions, in particular the access and passage options, must be taken into account. These factors often determine the design and width of the gantry mowers that can be used. Gates, narrow paths or other natural or artificial boundaries sometimes restrict the access options and therefore the width of the mower. In general, their specific design must be taken into account when working with portal mowers. All maintenance, repair and replacement of components must be carried out in accordance with the operating instructions for gantry mowers.
