Rocker arm
The blade of a cutter bar cutterbar can be guided in different ways. The oscillating cutterbars from ESM are equipped with a guide arm, a swing lever or a hinged knife guide. Which type of knife guide is selected depends on the design of the cutterbar and its area of application.
Spring-loaded rocker arm
Blade guidance using spring-loaded rocker arms, such as those used in "municipal" cutter bars and "double-blade" cutterbars, enables quick and easy blade changes. This is particularly advantageous in professional use, as it minimises maintenance intervals and avoids interruptions to the mowing process. The blades are removed from the front for replacement. This mechanism is user-friendly and makes it easier to carry out the necessary work on the cutting unit. Another advantage of this design is that it guarantees optimum blade guidance, which is a basic prerequisite for achieving a good cutting result. To ensure that the rocker arm can transfer the power of the mower drive optimally to the mower blades, a number of other measures must be observed. The mower blades must always be straight, sharp and well ground. It is also essential that the individual blades are aligned. Another prerequisite for good cutting performance is that the rocker arm is not bent. Such bending of the rocker arm cannot always be avoided, as the entire cutting unit is subjected to heavy and constant loads during the mowing process. The cutterbar is correctly adjusted when the lower edge of the blade back is approx. 1 mm higher than the lower edge of the bar back.
Maintenance of cutterbars with rocker arm
Regular inspection of the cutterbar with rocker arm is recommended to achieve optimum cutting and harvesting performance. It therefore makes sense to also check the rocker arm as part of the general maintenance work. In addition to ensuring that the rocker arm is intact, make sure that the pressure of the guide arms is set correctly. The pressure can be adjusted by moving the arm in the holder. In any case, the relevant ESM operating instructions should be consulted for all questions relating to the maintenance and adjustment of a cutting unit with rocker arm.
