Y flail knife

Patented ESM Y flail blades with a multi-stage cutting edge are used in particularly demanding mowing situations. Mowers with Y flail blades are the right choice, especially when cutting high areas overgrown with undergrowth. The reason for this lies in the special design of the mowers.

Design of the Y flail blades

The vertical alignment of the drive shaft and the arrangement and shape of the blades make flail mowers very robust tools. Y flail blades are attached to the drive shaft in pairs and form the characteristic shape in this arrangement. By rotating the shaft quickly, the flail mower's cutting unit cuts the clippings cleanly and powerfully. The robust mowing behaviour proves to be advantageous in extensive landscape maintenance, where mowing is carried out at long intervals, and is superior to other mowing systems. Areas that are managed extensively generally have uneven vegetation. Tall grass is interspersed with undergrowth and even smaller trees and bushes. The thickness of the stems of this vegetation would make mowing with a mowing system that is not based on flail blades ineffective. The mowing process would have to be interrupted frequently and mowing would have to be carried out with extreme caution. Instead, a mower based on the technology of the patented ESM Y flail blades is able to effortlessly mow through such an overgrown field. Tall grass, undergrowth and small trees are cut and finely chopped by the blades. The high-quality blades in ESM quality guarantee a particularly good cutting pattern. The resulting mulch is deposited cleanly and evenly. Like all ESM products, the Y flail blades are of extremely high quality, although successive wear of the blades is naturally unavoidable in continuous use. When using the Y flail blades, the blades can be made ready for use again by turning them through 180°.

Changing the blade on the Y flail blade

If the cutting surfaces of the Y flail blades are blunt again, the blades must be replaced. Blunt or damaged Y flail blades cannot be resharpened. The safety instructions in the operating manual must be observed when changing the blades. ESM provides its customers with extensive and detailed documentation describing how to change blades and carry out maintenance work.
