Zürn

Zürn Harvesting GmbH & Co KG is a German manufacturer of cutterbars and additional equipment for combine harvesters and forage harvesters. Zürn is headquartered in Schöntal-Westernhausen in Baden-Württemberg. The cutterbars and field trial technology are produced in the company's own factories in Ravenstein-Merchingen and Waldenburg.

The history of Zürn

Zürn was founded in 1885 as a forge; for over 25 years, the company has specialised in the production of cutterbars and additional equipment. Zürn has been an authorised dealer for John Deere since 1963 and its product range includes header cutterbars for rapeseed and sunflowers, direct cutterbars, high-performance belt cutterbars and cutterbar transport wagons. One focus of Zürn's cutterbar production is the construction of high-quality rapeseed cutters. Mowing rapeseed is a particular challenge for the farmer, as the vegetation in a rapeseed field ready for harvesting differs significantly from that in a cereal field. Rapeseed plants form a densely interwoven mown area that cannot be mowed with a conventional combine harvester. There is also a risk of the sensitive rapeseed pods bursting open on contact with the cutterbar. The harvested product, the oilseed, can fall out and be lost. To avoid such shaking losses, Zürn has developed special rapeseed separating cutterbars. These cutterbars for rapeseed have additional, vertically mounted cutting units that cut through the densely woven rapeseed carpet in addition to the horizontal mowing process. Only this type of mowing process makes it possible to harvest the rapeseed plants without disruption and with minimal shaking losses. The lateral rapeseed knives can be driven mechanically or electrically. In any case, a slim design and low-vibration running of the knives are extremely important.
